Patrick MacDonald

Media and Issues Management

Patrick offers Cole Lawson's clients direct expertise in both the law and news media. A qualified lawyer, he holds degrees in Law and Journalism from the University of Queensland, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice, Skills and Ethics from Griffith University. He was admitted as a solicitor in 2010 (non-practising).

Patrick has both private and public law experience, having previously worked at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the District Court of Queensland and the Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House. He is particularly familiar with issues involving media law, administrative law, industrial relations, criminal law and mental health law, as well as government and regulatory affairs.

Patrick offers clients a multi-disciplinary approach that is particularly relevant for organisations experiencing crisis, legal and regulatory issues. In these situations, Patrick can work side-by-side with legal teams and deliver communication advice that is grounded by practical legal principles.

Patrick's ability to offer public relations counsel is supplemented by several years' experience as a freelance journalist across television, print and online media. He is a former television presenter and scriptwriter for Network Ten, and has appeared nationally on every free-to-air network in Australia.
