Margaret Lawson
Managing Director and Media Trainer

Margaret Lawson has more than 15 years' PR experience in media relations and corporate communications across the private, public and university sectors.

She has led teams responsible for complex communication projects including acquisitions and mergers, and played a management role in the $1.2 billion sale of Ergon Energy Retail in 2007. Prior to the sale, Margaret was responsible for Ergon Energy’s national retail communications team.

Margaret has a long-standing passion for aerospace and aviation, and applied this to lead the media and publicity for the launch of Australia's FedSat satellite in 2002 in Japan. At Cole Lawson, she established the firm's aviation practice, which offers organisations in the aviation, aerospace and transport industries specialised counsel with media relations, marketing, crisis management and corporate communications. In 2011, Margaret completed a Master of Science and Technology (Aviation) degree at the University of New South Wales.

Margaret has also held media relations and marketing communication positions with the Queensland University of Technology and worked as a political adviser. She is the creator of the successful Expert Guide media web site and, as a consultant, has worked with prominent national and global clients in transportation, energy, engineering, healthcare, publishing, property and civil liberties.

As a journalist, Margaret has worked on newspapers in Australia and the United States, and has written for publications including The Courier-Mail, The Charlotte Observer, Australasian Science and Australian Journalism Review.

Margaret’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Business (Communication) and a Graduate Diploma of Arts (Journalism). She is a member of the Public Relations Institute of Australia, and has received eight commendations from the PRIA for crisis communication, nonprofit communications, and public affairs campaigns. Margaret is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.

Clarissa Lynch
Group Account Director

Clarissa has more than 20 years’ experience in communication roles, including 15 years’ experience in senior positions providing strategic advice. She is a highly experienced communications advisor with skills in strategy development, corporate communications, media relations, reputation management, issues and crisis management, internal and change communications and investor relations. Clarissa has developed a reputation for exceeding expectations, consistently meeting tight deadlines and working effectively under challenging conditions.

Her experience covers both public and private sector organisations, having worked with several blue-chip companies and large government departments. She has delivered annual reports, ASX announcements and investor events and managed communications programs for financial transactions.

Clarissa has extensive experience and networks within all levels of government, having worked on numerous portfolios including communities and disability, investment and trade, rail, transport, defence, treasury, natural resources and mines.

Clarissa’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Business in Communication (QUT), Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Journalism (UQ) and Master of Business Administration (currently in progress).

Alex Hyndman Hill
Senior Consultant

Alex has 20 years of experience in television and radio journalism, including anchoring and presenting, as well as in strategic communications roles. She is a specialist media trainer focused on preparing clients for on-camera appearances and interviews. She is also highly experienced in developing strategic content across social media platforms.

Alex was previously a sports news presenter and reporter on 24-hour rolling news channels Sky News, Sky Sports News and Setanta Sports News. She has international experience as a London news presenter for Good Morning Britain and was later the co-presenter of ITV's London Tonight. She has also worked in an anchor role on ITV national lunchtime and morning news, as a presenter, reporter and producer at Channel 5 News and as a radio broadcaster for BSKYB, GCAP Radio, ITN, UBC Media and Lincs Radio Group.

Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature (University of London) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism (De Montfort University).

Nicola Rodrigues
Account Manager

Nicola has worked as a communications professional for more than a decade, honing her skills in consulting and in-house roles across the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors.

She has a proven track record of success in every stage of communication campaigns, including from initial planning and development to tactical execution. She has delivered projects involving all aspects of corporate communication, media relations, internal communications, community engagement and marketing communications.

Nicola has also been involved in crisis communications and reputation management to guide clients through sensitive and contentious issues. This has included managing high-profile community engagement programs in urban planning, transport, environmental issues and construction impacts.

Nicola is an experienced and versatile corporate writer with the ability to produce content across all media channels.

A member of the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA), Nicola holds a Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication) from Murdoch University, WA. She has won several commendations from the PRIA for her work throughout her career.

Steve Titmus
Account Director

Steve has more than 20 years experience as a prime-time newsreader, journalist and head of news.

He brings unique skills with a decade of experience in corporate communications including crisis management, stakeholder engagement and media relations.

Steve has worked with a vast range of clients and industries, including private enterprise, government, finance, utilities, property, construction, education, retail, sport and tourism.

Sue Monk
Senior Consultant and Principal Trainer

Sue has more than 20 years’ experience as a journalist and public relations professional, including senior roles in the UK and Australian Governments. She has also provided media and communications services to several blue chip Australian companies including Brisbane Airport Corporation, Xstrata, Port of Brisbane, Seqwater, Sunwater, McCullough Robertson, BDO, Shine Lawyers, Corporate Travel Management and Puma Energy.

Sue holds a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) from the University of Queensland and a Masters of Science in International and European Politics from the University of Edinburgh. She began her career as a journalist for The Courier-Mail, where she was an editorial writer and reported on areas including legal affairs, property and women’s issues.

After leaving journalism Sue worked for the Scottish Executive, European Commission and went on to become a media adviser to Britain’s second most powerful politician, the then British Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown. Sue has also worked in house at PR agency, BWH, and engineering firm, SKM. More recently Sue was the Media Centre Manager for Brisbane’s G20 Leaders Summit. Sue is a multiple award winner for her public relations work, and is also certified as a public participation practitioner.

Rhiannon Smith
Account Manager and Presentation Skills Trainer

Rhiannon is passionate about achieving her clients' goals and enhancing their reputations through insightful, well-written communication. She has developed and delivered crisis response exercises, co-ordinated responses to reputational and fraud crises, and supported organisations going through periods of cultural and transformational change. She has experience consulting to clients in the property, energy, aviation, technology, and health industries. Rhiannon is adept at securing media coverage, developing multimedia content, communications planning, social media and project management. She has exceptional organisational skills that allow her to seamlessly project manage strategic campaigns for clients and deliver targeted communications on-time and on-budget, as well as the unique ability to prioritise tasks, effectively handle competing priorities and maintain a constant eye for detail.

Rhiannon also runs tailored presentation skills training and has helped countless professionals develop the tools, structure and delivery required to engage audiences.

Rhiannon holds a Bachelor of Journalism and a Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations) from the University of Queensland.

Amelia Edwards
Account Associate

Amelia utilises her exceptional writing skills to craft high-quality media releases, engaging social media schedules and effective internal communication.

She has a keen interest in news and current affairs and is passionate about demonstrating the value of public relations across all sectors.

She has also spent time studying in Munich and interning in Tokyo, giving her an international perspective on journalism and media relations.

Amelia holds a Bachelor of Communication (public relations), Bachelor of Arts (international relations and English literature) and Diploma of Languages (German) from the University of Queensland.

Rosy Lone
Account Associate

Rosy joined Cole Lawson from a boutique communication agency where she worked with small businesses, entrepreneurs and government. She also spent several years working in the property sector in business development. She is skilled at writing and distributing press releases, managing social media and executing communication strategies.

Rosy holds a Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations and Advertising) from the University of Queensland.

Claire Banfield
Account Executive

Bo Daly
Account Manager

Bo joined Cole Lawson from a boutique Brisbane agency, where she was responsible for clients in the primary industry, property, and tourism sectors.

Bo has experience in planning and delivering a number of media campaigns for clients across print, digital, and radio channels that focus on raising brand awareness amongst key audiences.

With expertise in strategy development, media relations and social media, Bo works across a range of clients at Cole Lawson, including those in the not-for-profit, tourism, professional services and resource sectors.

Bo holds a Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations) from the University of Queensland, and is a skilled public relations and marketing professional.

Nathan Scholz
Senior Consultant

Nathan has more than 15 years’ experience as a journalist and public relations professional, including senior management roles in corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors.

Nathan began his career as a journalist for The Courier-Mail, where he worked in a number of reporting roles including general business and finance.

After leaving journalism, Nathan held management and senior advisor roles with Cancer Council Queensland, Rio Tinto Coal Australia, Queensland Rail and most recently Virgin Australia, where he was a Corporate Communications Manager during a period of repositioning the airline as a customer-focused, full-service carrier.

Nathan has extensive experience in organisational positioning, media and issues management, integrated communications in support of business expansions, as well as working with executives to effectively engage with the media and stakeholders.
