Whether you need to promote a new product, present at an AGM, or handle the most hostile media pack, the public relations expert and real-life journalist who will run your training will give you the tools to help you perform.

Cole Lawson has developed a unique and proven training methodology which starts with us surveying your participants about their attitudes to the media and their prior media experiences.

We use this information to customise every media training session to the needs of your organisation and the experience of your participants.

After identifying what you need to know, we deliver tailored sessions for you over one full day, or several half-day sessions. We can deliver Brisbane media training in our Adelaide Street boardroom, or we can come to you.

Each organisation's workshop is different, but some of the common material we may cover includes:

Media awareness: this session provides a foundation of knowledge about the media, and answers all your questions about journalists and how they work. We will walk you through "A day in the life of a journalist" so you understand their needs;
Basic interviewing skills: we teach you the "Message-Because-Example" (MBE) interviewing technique, using example scenarios from your organisation. The "MBE Technique" and "MBE Matrix" are tools that were developed by Margaret Lawson to teach you how to frame your messages in a persuasive way that the audience will follow. After developing your "MBEs" with you, we give you several "on-camera" experiences to help you apply what you've learned;
Expert interviewing skills: we can help you live out your worst media nightmare in the safety of your own boardroom (or ours). Whether you need us to ask some hard questions or put you in "the hot seat" and use every trick in the book, you will leave equipped to handle the possible media response to a crisis or controversial situation involving your organisation.

Our trainers have delivered Cole Lawson's media training program to spokespeople from the Bureau of Meteorology, Queensland Transport, and the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter. We have also undertaken executive media training for people in the aviation, energy, aged care, finance, public advocacy and education sectors.
